CDM wins Sunset League Championship with 17-11 win

Sophomore goalie Grant Giuliano recorded a career high 17 saves in CDM's 17-11 win over Los Al
CDM won its first Sunset League Championship in Boys Lacrosse with an impressive 17-11 win over Los Alamitos on Wednesday night. The Sea Kings built a steady and significant lead throughout the game, leading 5-1 at the end of the first quarter, 10-4 at the half, 15-7 after three, and led 17-7 with just 5:30 remaining in the fourth quarter.

"I thought our kids did a great job at both ends of the field tonight," commented CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "We held their top players in check when it mattered and the offense was able to slowly build what turned out to be a ten goal lead late in the fourth quarter. A great effort against a very good team. It was nice to get Ty back on the field full-time and Grant Giuliano was really good again. Lucas and Logan are so selfless and a really tough one two punch at the face-off X. I'm looking forward to the rest of this journey with these kids."

Junior Ty Caffarelli led all CDM scorers with seven points (5 goals, 2 assists), while fellow juniors Logan Ip (4 goals) and Lucas Newton (4 goals, 2 assists) added quite a bit of firepower to the Sea King offense.

The biggest story lines on the night were the slow and steady build up to a ten goal lead, the play of sophomore goalie Grant Giuliano and the dominance at the face-off spot of the Newton-Ip combo.

With the win, CDM finished atop the Sunset League with a 5-0 record, averaging more than 17 goals per game, and outscoring conference opponents 86-22.

CDM's JV won it's second consecutive undefeated Sunset League title at the JV level with an impressive 10-6 win at Los Al.

With the win, CDM improves its overall record to 11-3. Up next for the Sea Kings is the final regular-season game against Mater Dei at home on Saturday at noon.
