Kings up-end top-ranked Foothill, off to 4-0 start

Senior attackman Stephen Von Der Ahe led all goal scorers with 5 tallies against the Knights.
CDM improved to 4-0 with a 16-13 road victory against top-ranked Foothill (6-1) on Saturday evening. The meeting was the first between the two teams since the 2012 CIF Semi-Finals, in which CDM defeated the Kights on their way to a 24-0 season and a CIF title.

"This is a good win for our young team," said CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "The kids have been working tremendously hard all year to put themselves in a position to compete with programs like Foothill this spring. That hard work is beginning to pay off, but we have a long way to go."

Senior face-off specialist Jason Simaan had a tremendous outing, winning 24 of 30 draws (80%). His dominance led to a significant possession advantage for the visiting Sea Kings.

"Jason is a very valuable weapon. His ability to control possession after either team scores a goal gives us a significant advantage. It enables us to string together goals without playing defense and gives us the chance to put a quick end to an opponent's multi-goal run. It played a key role in tonight's victory."

Simaan, bound for Brown University in the fall, was recently named OC Register's Athlete of the Week. The Brown Bears are currently ranked in the Top Ten of NCAA Division I Lacrosse.

Senior attackman Jordan Greenhall was a consistent threat for CDM throughout the evening, leading all scorers with 7 points (2 goals and 5 assists). Senior attackman/midfielder Stephen Von Der Ahe led the Sea Kings goal scoring with five. Junior midfelder Ryan Meckler recorded a hat trick, while Eric Fries (So./Att) and Nate Neumann (Sr./Mid) added two goals each. Sachin Gokhale (Jr./Att) and Will Favreau (Jr./Mid) rounded out the scoring.

Up next for CDM is Columbine, visiting from Colorado, on Wednesday at 5:00 PM at CDM.
