CDM dominates Newport Harbor, sinking Sailors 20-3

Corona del Mar improved to 5-0 with a convincing 20-3 win over visiting Newport Harbor
Senior attackman Stephen Von der Ahe scored six goals and classmate Jordan Greenhall added four more and two assists to lead the host Sea Kings to a 20-3 victory over Newport Harbor.

"This was a great effort by our kids," commented CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "They showed great poise and leadership today. We asked them to stay focused on the task at hand and not get caught up in the emotion that everyone else puts into this game. They handled it extremely well."

On goals from Von der Ahe (1) and Greenhall (2), CDM took a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Thanks in most part to another dominant performance by face-off midfielder Jason Simaan (11 for 12 / .916%), the Kings were able to expand that lead to 11-1 at half-time.

Midway through the third quarter, the hosts began to make wholesale substitutions, but the unanswered scoring continued with impressive performances by sophomore attackman Eric Fries (4 goals), junior attackman Sachin Gokhale (2 goals, 2 assists) and Kyle Young (3 assists). CDM led 17-1 at the end of 3 periods.

Senior goalie Nick Guizan recorded 6 saves in the victory.

With the win, Corona del Mar improves it's record over Newport Harbor to 12-0 (since boys lacrosse became a CIF sport at both schools in 2007) and head coach G.W. Mix's career mark against the Sailors grows to 9-0.

Next up for the Sea Kings is St. Margaret's. The game will be Tuesday, March 29 at 3:30 PM at CDM.
