Can I Assist You With That... GOAL?
Sophomore attackman Casey Mix recorded 7 assists in a 16-4 PCL win at Northwood
It seems like only yesterday CDM beat Northwood 18-5. That's because it was. Less than twenty-four hours later, the Sea Kings were at it again. This time, beating the Timberwolves 16-4 in their own backyard. The win improves the Kings record to 10-1, 7-0 in the Pacific Coast League.
Casey Mix (So./Attack) had seven assists to lead the Sea Kings on offense. Michael Keasey (Jr./Midfield) added four goals and an assist, while Jack Ortlieb (So./Attack) found the net three times. Several of Mix's assists and Keasey's goals today and throughout the season have come from a specific extra-man offense the team runs in penalty situations.
"It's one of the plays we designed to take advantage of some of our strengths," Coach Mix explained afterward. "Michael and Casey have been on quite a roll with that play all season. After his second goal today, I told Michael he's gonna have to buy me a boat for all of those goals he gets from that play. As the assists pile up, I'm beginning to think Casey might have to buy the trailer."
The face-off duo of Taylor Epp (Jr./Midfield) and Dave Detrick (Sr./Midfield) were dominant, winning 14 of 19 face-offs.
Michael Ortlieb (Jr./Goalie) continues to show why he is considered among the top goalies in Southern California, making 12 saves, allowing just three goals, and assisting on two.
CDM returns home Monday afternoon (4/11) at 3:00 PM to play Irvine in another Pacific Coast League game. On Wednesday (4/13), they meet Orange County rival Foothill at Foothill High School at 4:00 PM.
