Sea Kings upset California's #1 Torrey Pines 11-9

Junior attackman Ty Caffarelli (#44 foreground) led CDM's upset of Torrey Pines with four goals.
Junior attackman Ty Caffarelli scored four goals and classmate Logan Ip added three goals and an assist to lead the Sea Kings to a monumental upset over California's top-ranked Falcons of Torrey Pines (San Diego).

CDM scored the first seven goals of the night and took a commanding, and ultimately insurmountable, 8-1 lead into half-time. Four of those seven goals came from the stick of Caffarelli. The Falcons outscored CDM 8-3 in the second half, but their furious comeback fell short.

In the end, it was the Sea Kings' relentless hustle all over the field and in ground ball situations that proved to be the difference in the contest.

"This is one of the most special wins in our program's history," commented CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "We have had some great battles with Torrey Pines over the years, but this win, with this group of kids, is pretty special."

With the win, CDM improved its record to 5-3.

As a follow-up to Tuesday night's win over Torrey Pines, an exhausted CDM squad (6-3) defeated Edison 12-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Next up for the Sea Kings is a Battle of the Bay game with Newport Harbor on Saturday, May 8 at Noon at CDM. The JV game begins at 2:00 PM.
