They've Elected A King At Arizona State
Former CDM midfielder Jacob Goulding re-elected as student body president at ASU
Former Sea King midfielder Jacob Goulding (CDM '08) made history at Arizona State University yesterday by becoming the first Undergraduate Student Government president at ASU to be re-elected to a second term. The announcement was made to an excited crowd in front of Old Main on ASU's campus yesterday.
Goulding and his running mates, Tina Mounlavongsy and James Baumer, received nearly 75 percent of the 3,351 votes cast on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“I feel awesome,” Goulding said. “We really gave it everything we had. We worked just as hard and acted as if we were behind the whole time, and I think that’s what made the difference.”
During his time at CDM, Goulding played football and was a midfielder on the lacrosse team. Most important, however, may have been the time he dedicated to CDM's Youth In Government (YIG) program.
"I used to joke with him and others about 'YIG' standing for 'Yep, I'm Gone' from practice," said head coach G.W. Mix, an assistant coach when Goulding played at CDM. "What Jacob has accomplished in the political arena since his time with us is remarkable and a testament to his leadership and work ethic. There are even bigger things ahead for that kid. His family, friends and former teammates should be extremely proud."
Goulding said he and his administration will continue to work for students throughout the remainder of the year and look forward to continuing their work even further next year.
“It’s an absolute honor that the students have chose to give us the trust again,” he said. “We’re going to keep working on our platform and we look forward to expanding on our success.”
