Sea Kings lose a tough one in the foothills 12-11

Junior goalie Michael Ortlieb was outstanding, recording 16 saves in 12-11 loss
Despite a great effort from Michael Ortlieb (Jr./Goalie) and the rest of the defense, CDM fell 12-11 to Foothill in what has become a classic annual shootout between two of the County's best teams. Foothill scored the game winner with 1:43 remaining and was able to push back a last second transition opportunity to grab the win. For the past three seasons, the regular season game between these two teams has been decided by one goal, with CDM winning the last two in overtime (2009 & 2010). The loss drops the Kings overall record to 11-2, 8-0 in Pacific Coast League play.

"It was another great game between two very determined teams," said CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "These kids play their hearts out every time they face each other. Foothill is an incredibly talented and experienced team and I was proud of the way our kids fought all day long to keep pace with them. I hope we can find a way to earn another shot (in the Orange County play-offs in May)."

Michael Keasey (Jr./Midfield) led all CDM scorers with 3 goals and 2 assists. The attack unit of Hunter Molnar (Jr./Attack), Casey Mix (So./Attack) and Jack Ortlieb (So./Attack) had another impressive showing, combining for 6 goals and 10 assists. Donald Dalton (Sr./Defense) and Connor Canale (Jr./Midfield) each added a goal and an assist.

"One of the keys to our success today was the play of our face-off guy Dave Detrick (Sr./Midfield)," added Mix. "We typically use a combination of Dave and Taylor Epp (Jr./Midfield), but Dave had it going today, so we stuck with him the majority of the time. He won some big draws for us in the second half."

Next up for the Sea Kings is St. Margaret's on Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM Davidson Field (Newport Harbor HS). The Tartans are currently ranked 3rd in the Orange County Coaches Poll.
