Sea Kings handle Beckman 10-2
Junior Connor Gaal scored twice and added 2 assists in 10-2 win
Less than twenty-four hours after losing to St. Margaret's, the Sea Kings got back on track with a 10-0 win against Pacific Coast opponent Beckman. The win secured CDM's fourth straight undefeated PCL championship, improving the program's record to 38-0 over the course of its time in the league.
Junior midfielder Connor Gaal scored twice and had two assists, while Michael Keasey (Jr./Midfield) added three goals and an assist. The Kings led the Patriots 6-0 at the half and 10-0 before Beckman got on the board midway through the fourth quarter. Michael Ortlieb (Jr./Goalie) recorded eight saves in three scoreless quarters before yielding the space between the pipes to Andreé Busto (Sr./Goalie). Connor Canale (Jr./Attack) had two goals and Jack Ortlieb (So./Attack) added two goals and an assist. Hunter Molnar (Jr./Attack) scored once.
The face-off duo of Dave Detrick (Sr./Midfield) and Taylor Epp (Jr./Midfield) continued their run through the Pacific Coast League, winning 10 of 13 draws (.769%).
"This was another solid win for us," said head coach G.W. Mix. "We were able to give some much-needed rest to a few guys who were tired and banged up from last night's game. It's always good to just get out and play after a bad showing like we had at St. Margaret's (13-3 loss to the Tartans). We made a few changes in the wake of that loss and I like what I saw out there."
The Sea Kings (13-4, 10-0) travel to Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday for an inter-county match up with Palos Verdes at 2:00 PM. The game will be the final game of the 2011 regular season.
Seedings and pairings for the 2011 Orange County Championship playoffs will be announced last Saturday evening. If the Sea Kings remain among the top 8 seeds in Orange County, they will host a first-round game on Tuesday, May 3rd.
