Senior John Prickett receives Gratzinger Award

John Prickett, bound for the University of Michigan, received the 2011 Gratzinger Award. Go Blue!
Senior defenseman and tri-captain John Prickett received the prestigious Gratzinger Award & Scholarship at tonight's CDM Lacrosse Senior Celebration. Prickett becomes the sixth recipient of the award presented annually to the boys and girls lacrosse player at CDM who "best embodies these traits along with the spark, spirit and character to help continue to develop the CDM lacrosse program on campus and within the local community." The 2011 CDM girls lacrosse recipient was Rylie Nese.

"Over the past several years, John has made a very significant contribution to the growth and development of CDM lacrosse," said CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "On the field, he works hard, respects the game and his teammates, and injects his unique sense of humor when we need it most. Off the field, he is a magnetic campus leader and was instrumental in getting many other student-athletes at CDM to play lacrosse. Given the criteria for the award, I can think of no player more deserving than John. It is comforting to see his teammates felt the same way."

At the conclusion of the 2006 season, the Corona del Mar Lacrosse Boosters and Board of Directors created an award to be given to the CDM player with the most love, dedication and respect for the game of lacrosse. Its recipient should also intend to further his or her education in college, trade school, or the military. The Gratzinger Award includes a $1,000 scholarship.

The award is given regardless of the player’s lacrosse ability. Currently, the CDM boys lacrosse program allows each varsity player to participate in the voting process.

The inaugural trophy was awarded to Michael Gratzinger and Kelly McElroy for their efforts in founding and promoting the boys and girls lacrosse programs. Although intended to be awarded upon the completion of studies at CDM, underclassmen are also eligible, in which case, if so selected, the CDM Lacrosse Boosters Board holds the scholarship funds and awards them upon the honoree’s graduation.
