CDM led Team America makes Sweet 16 at Champ Camp

Team America finished 7-1 and in the top 16 at Champ Camp in Baltimore
CDM was well-represented this summer on the high school lacrosse recruiting circuit. Team America traveled east to Baltimore to participate in Champ Camp, the nation's oldest and most prestigious recruiting showcase. Many of the Sea Kings were major contributors to the team and helped lead Team America to a spot in the Sweet 16.

72 teams from across the country came to the event to compete in a four-day national championship tournament in front of nearly 100 college coaches, most from the top lacrosse schools in the east.

"For a group of kids from Southern California to go back there and play in a tournament with the best of the best and finish in the top twenty percent is remarkable," said CDM head coach and Team America director G.W. Mix. "Despite record temperatures and high humidity over the four days, our kids battled with the very best and showed the college coaches just how far lacrosse in California has come."

Team America finished the event with an overall record of 6-1, losing its first game of the tournament in the round of 16 of the Championship Bracket.

In the first four rounds of pool play, the team went 4-0, defeating 3D Select Futures (New England) 5-3, STL Samurai 2 (Missouri) 9-1, Tri-State Gold (PA/NJ/NY) 8-2, and Pittsburgh Elite Black (4-2).  By winning their pool outright, they qualified for one of the top 16 seeds in the 32-team Championship Bracket.

In the first round of the Championship Bracket playoffs, Team America defeated Gilman 5-3. Their first loss of the weekend came in the next round when they fell 6-2 to Leading Edge 2012 (New Jersey) 6-2.

In the final consolation game on Sunday morning, Team America defeated Fog City (Northern California) 7-5. The Fog City team was comprised of players from the best high school programs in the San Francisco area, including perennial powerhouse St. Ignatius.

Team America, consisting mostly of CDM and Newport Harbor players, also added players from Granada Hills, Laguna Hills, Palos Verdes and St. Margaret's. The group was coached by CDM head JV Coach Andy Chalupa, CDM assistant coach Kyle Rockey, and Ryan Mix, a former standout attackman at CDM and current player at Notre Dame.
