Senior Hunter Molnar had four goals and two assists, and junior attackman Jack Ortlieb added four goals, to lead CDM to its second win of the season, a 16-1 triumph over University. With the win, the Sea Kings improve their overall and Pacific Coast League record to 2-0 (2-0 / 2-0 PCL).

"Today's win was a good one for our kids," said CDM head coach G.W. Mix. "We shot the ball very well which is a trend we will need to continue this weekend when Santa Margarita shows up."

The Sea Kings held a commanding 7-1 lead at the end of the first period. Six different players scored in the initial barrage. Molnar had two goals, with Michael Keasey (Sr./Midfield), Aaron Khosh (Sr./Midfield), Casey Mix (Jr./Attack), Connor Canale (Sr./Midfield), and Jack Ortlieb (Jr./Attack) adding one apiece. Ortlieb added two more in the second quarter and with a little help from his friends, the Kings found themselves up 12-1 at the intermission.

"We rode pretty effectively this afternoon," Mix added. "We were able to gain additional possessions even after we made a few costly turnovers. We have to improve in a lot of areas before Saturday."

In lacrosse, riding is very similar to "full court" or "half-court" pressure in basketball. Rather than conceding a clear (allowing the other team to easily transition from its defensive end to its offensive half of the field), CDM employs a variety of "rides" to make it very difficult for their opponent to clear the ball. Oftentimes, these rides will force turnovers, enabling CDM to regain possession.

This afternoon's game also featured the varsity debuts of several young and talented players who provided a quick glimpse into the future of the Sea King Program. Freshman Hoyt Crance (Fr./Goalie) started the second half in the cage, recording three saves and a personal shutout. His twin brother Hugh (Fr./Defense) played a majority of the game at long-stick midfield in a rotation with Senior defenseman Zack Salaam. Sherwin Gersten (Fr./Midfield) and Ben Palitz (Fr./Attack) saw quite a bit of action in the second half. Brett Greenlee (Fr./Defense) also made an appearance on defense.

"Along with quite a few other young kids, these guys are the future of our program," Mix commented. "Coach Chalupa and his staff (Tim Cassi, Dick Freeman and Greg Wooden) are doing a terrific job of teaching these kids our system. Their insertion into our game today was fairly seamless."

The Kings, young and old, have no time to rest. They face Irvine in the second meeting for the two teams this afternoon at 3:15 PM at CDM and top ten ranked Santa Margarita on Saturday.

Saturday's varsity and JV games against Santa Margarita (3-1) have been moved from Davidson Field to CDM. The varsity game is at noon, with the JV game beginning twenty minutes after the completion of the varsity contest.
