CDM continues to roll in Pacific Coast League
Jack Ortlieb had 4 goals and 3 assists to lead all scorers in 22-0 win over Irvine
Led by junior attackman Jack Ortlieb's seven point first half (4 goals / 3 asssists), CDM (3-0 / 3-0 PCL) continued its dominance of the Pacific Coast League with a 22-0 win over visiting Irvine.
Despite appearing in the first half only, Ortlieb, Michael Keasey (Sr/Midfield), Connor Canale (Sr/Midfield), Hunter Molnar (Sr/Attack) and Brett Nelson (Jr/Midfield) scored a combined eleven goals. Juniors Todd Kitzens (Jr/Attack) and Chris Von Der Ahe (Jr/Midfield) added a goal each to help the Kings take a 13-0 into the break.
Sea King fans were treated to a pretty clear view of the program's future for most of the second half. Freshman midfielder Sherwin Gersten scored twice and narrowly missed several other opportunities, with multiple shots finding iron instead of net. Classmate Ben Palitz (Fr/Attack) added a pair of goals, including a spectacular tally off an inside roll dodge along the edge of the crease midway through the fourth quarter.
"These young kids can really play," commented head coach G.W. Mix. "They began many years ago in our youth program and the bug has clearly bitten them. Andy (Andy Chalupa, CDM's head JV coach) has done a great job preparing them to successfully compete at a very high level."
Gersten and Palitz were joined on the field throughout the day by fellow freshmen Hoyt (Fr/Goalie) and Hugh (Fr/Defense) Crance and Brett Greenlee (Fr/Defense).
"These kids, and numerous other under Andy's guidance, are going to play very big roles in the future of our program. It's great to see them be rewarded for their hard work and respect for the game."

CDM has dominated the Pacific Coast League since joining its ranks in 2008, winning four straight undefeated PCL championships. They are well on their way to a fifth.
"These games are very difficult for us. As a participating member of the Pacific Coast League, we have an obligation to play them each twice, but other than the opportunity to develop our less-experienced players, there is not much value to most of the games. A few of the teams are able to compete with us, but most are not. We can't apologize for it because it is a direct reflection of our school and our kids' commitment to excellence, but games like today's create a tough situation for both benches."
Mix cautioned the Sea King faithful not to allow the results of the first three games of the season to serve as any indication of the team's ability to compete with the best in Orange County.
"Believe me, Saturday will be a very different story. Santa Margarita is talented and very well coached. We are going to have to fight to earn every opportunity we get. We will have a much better idea of where we are as a team shortly after lunch (on Saturday)."
CDM's varsity and JV play Santa Margarita at CDM on Saturday. The varsity game begins at noon, imediately followed by the JV.
