Sea Kings Get The Crown Jewels
The 2012 CIF Southern Section Champions receive their rings at an on-campus ceremony.
Members of CDM's 2012 CIF Southern Section Championship boys lacrosse team received their championship rings during an on-campus ceremony on Wednesday, September 19. Athletics Director Don Grable congratulated the players in front of a crowd of hundreds of fellow students, faculty and administrators, and family members. Corona del Mar math teacher and student-athlete mentor Dave Sizer announced each player individually and principal Tim Bryan presented them with their ring.
"This was a very appropriate ceremony," commented head coach G.W. Mix. "Our kids have always believed competing for CDM stretches beyond our game field and our locker room. We represent the entire Sea King community - fellow students, teachers and staff. I'm not sure there was a better way to celebrate this special moment than on campus, in the middle of a school day, with all of their friends."
The rings were designed by the eighteen members of the Class of 2012. They chose gold in honor of CDM's 50th anniversary celebration. The top of the ring features a gold Sea King crown set in a light blue stone with the text "2012 CIF SS CHAMPIONS" and four "diamonds" set around the stone. One of the sides features the player's name, the team's motto "ALL IN" and the California bear and star. The opposite side has the "CDM LACROSSE" text logo and incorporates the team's scripted "Kings" logo along with its 2012 record of 24-0.
The rings were presented to the underclassmen and 2012 senior Taylor Epp (Epp does not begin his studies at UCSB until the week of 9/24). Coach Mix presented the rest of the seniors' rings to their parents so they can make arrangements to get them to their sons at school.
